WLAN/Bluetooth Low Loss Compact Balun

Typical Applications

WLAN, Bluetooth, WiMax, Home-RF
Description

We have designed low loss compact baluns for 2.45 GHz ISM band applications such as WLAN, Bluetooth, etc. A typical balun is designed in 6 mil GaAs process. The layout is 0.9 mm2. It has insertion loss of 0.5dB and return loss of -15 dB acroos the 100 MHz design bandwidth. The amplitude and phase balance are 0.5dB and 3 deg, respectively. It is a lumped component based balun. This methodology can be extended till 6 GHz for WiMax applications. We also have design successes in millimeter wave filter and balun design.

Key Features
  • Low Loss ( 0.5dB typical)
  • Tight amplitude balance : 0.5 dB
  • Tight phase balance : 3 deg
  • Small size : 0.9 mm2
